Rochford, SD
An old gold-mining town in the quiet middle of the Hills, right on the Mickelson Trail.
Rochford sprang up in the gold rush of the 1870s, and today it's one of the smallest towns in the Black Hills, with a few buildings strung along the road. The Mickelson Trail runs through town, and the drive in on Rochford Road winds through pine forest and open meadows where you'll often see deer and elk. Come for the quiet and the back roads, and stop for a coffee while you're here.
