The closest town to Mount Rushmore, a few miles below the memorial.
Keystone began as a gold mining camp in the 1880s, and these days it's the town most people pass through on the way up to Mount Rushmore, which is only a few miles up the road. The main street is busy all summer, and the 1880 Train runs from here to Hill City. Iron Mountain Road starts just outside town and the Needles Highway isn't far, so it makes a good base for the scenic drives.
